Cleaning

Several methods of cleaning are available and utilized within the lab.  Many items only require surface cleaning to remove dust and dirt particles.  Aqueous cleaning has become less prevalent in textile conservation, however is sometimes used to reduce staining and stabilize the pH of a textile.  The examples shown below demonstrated that they were stable enough to clean, would benefit from treatment through neutralization of pH, and would obtain an improved appearance for display and exhibition purposes.
