Repair and Stabilization

After assessing the object thoroughly, the process of repair and stabilization can begin.  The goal of this process is not to restore the object to its original condition, but instead to reduce further deterioration and stress to the object.  Repair methods vary based upon the type of damage that the object has experienced during its lifetime. Similarly, textile conservators utilize a variety of different stabilization techniques depending upon the composition of the object and how it will be displayed.  Below are a few of the projects I have worked on over the years, showing the various forms treatments can take.
